Khar Shian

"The moment I heard that our forces were being called to Khar Shian, I wasted no time pulling every relevant file available in the Alliance's database. Our opponent is notoriously well-informed, and in my experience, the best defenses in these situations are built from an equally-matched arsenal of knowledge.

Most official records on Khar Shian's history only exist within the Sith Academy's loathsome bounds of bureaucratic procedure; but I know where to find enough useful information to piece together a file on the potential hazards of this moon.

The former 'Dark Lord of the Sith,' Naga Sadow, selected Khar Shian as the location for his stronghold specifically because of its frigid climate and desolate landscape. Sadow planned and fought many of his battles from the shadows, and these unforgiving conditions--combined with the tidally-locked moon's perpetual darkness--made Khar Shian an ideal candidate over its gravitational primary, Khar Delba. These unique qualities allowed Sadow to conceal an entire fleet from the notice of his rival, who was defeated decisively following this cunning act of deception.

Sadow's fleet was only one weapon out of many that the Dark Lord wielded from his seat on Khar Shian. Reports on these apparatus--including last known operational configurations--to follow."

Naga Sadow's Fortress

"Anyone who assembles on Khar Shian--including the most well-supplied army--cannot survive the moon's harsh environment in perpetuity. Not without adequate shelter.

Few structures can realistically meet the necessary standards, and none so well as Naga Sadow's fortress, which still stands today. A testament to its durability.

Breaching the fortress is an unavoidable eventuality. Unfortunately, there is no way to reliably predict what sort of defenses, armaments, or traps are still active within its labyrinthian confines. Knowing Naga Sadow's affinity for conquest and his propensity for martial endeavors--and that he likely planned to one day return to Khar Shian--I'm certain there are many.

But what we lack in detailed information is counterbalanced by our restraint. Sadow's fortress may be categorized as 'abandoned,' but I have ventured into enough forgotten citadels and temples to know that one should never underestimate that which a Sith has left behind--especially one of the most prominently powerful figures in the Empire's history.

Based on their profiles, I'm certain that our enemies will not exercise the caution that I am advocating for: Treat every anomaly as a potential threat. Leave directional waypoints, even if you think you've mastered the structure's layout. Have a contingency plan for communication, in the event that latent technological frequencies interfere with personal devices.

And most importantly: if it looks like it can kill you, it most likely can. Proceed accordingly."

Naga Sadow's Alchemy

"Though Naga Sadow was unquestionably formidable through his command of Sith sorcery, many authorities on his tactics in battle credit his true power to another source: his talent for Sith alchemy techniques.

Sadow was an artist, working in the dark side of the Force. With it, he could fundamentally alter the physical matter of any subject, living, dead, or inanimate. The staggering breadth of Sadow's skill produced terrifyingly monstrous specimens, engineered to serve him; war blades imbued with lethal poisons, blinding reflective surfaces, and powerful properties that strengthened his energy and focus; and powerful vessels capable of broadcasting malignant hallucinations or tearing stars to shreds.

Most of these creations no longer exist--some were captured or sabotaged by enemies, others were destroyed in failed pursuits of their purpose. The location of Sadow's own personal sword has vanished from living memory, though it was likely lost at some point during his isolation on Yavin 4.

However, there are no records that completely and accurately catalogue every one of Sadow's innovations. Logic dictates that some number of them would have survived the centuries since Sadow's reign--I only wish there were a way to know for certain. I do hate being unprepared."

Malgus: Shades of the Past

Darth Malgus was present when the Sith reclaimed their ancestral homeworld, Korriban. Alongside his master at the time, Darth Vindican, Malgus attacked a Republic security team during the invasion, killing the Jedi Master who led them. But Vindican was gravely injured, and the Jedi's Padawan escaped with a Republic trooper and a smuggler. To Malgus, this flawed victory may as well have been a defeat. He swiftly--and fatally--punished his master's failure.

Despite Malgus's reputation for ruthless brutality, he had tremendous care and consideration for his lover, a former slave named Eleena Daru. In small ways, this fact quickly became apparent to other Sith. Daru fought fiercely by Malgus's side at the Sacking of Coruscant, and after the battle, Malgus gave orders for her to be taken to a Sith dreadnought to recover. Malgus's rival, Lord Adraas, sent her elsewhere so she would be left behind.

Adraas--who relied on politicking and cunning over physical prowess--frequently undermined Malgus's commands and claimed credit for Malgus's victories. Adraas's support for ending the Great Galactic War with a treaty--instead of conquering the Republic completely--disgusted Malgus, and when he learned what Adraas had done to Daru, it was the last straw.

Malgus found Daru in the medcenter where she had been abandoned, and as they spoke for the final time, Malgus realized that he could not truly be Sith if he allowed anyone to manipulate and exploit the weakness that Daru had become. After Malgus killed his lover, he tracked down Adraas and granted his rival the same fate--though his methods were considerably less merciful.

Naga Sadow's Monstrosities

"General consensus among historians contends that all of the Massassi warriors who served Naga Sadow accompanied their master during his self-imposed exile. Contemporary documentation of Massassi tribes on Yavin 4--including eyewitness testimony by yours truly--supports this assertion.

But some of my colleagues theorize that when Sadow abandoned Khar Shian, some of his genetic experiments were still in early stages, including an attempt at evolving certain traits in his Massassi soldiers. I would say that the likelihood of survival for organic subjects of such research, after so many centuries, is small--but that would do you all a great disservice.

In his time, Sadow performed great feats with as little effort as it would take for us to strap on a blaster or switch off a datapad. He himself survived decades beyond expectation through his knowledge of suspended animation. It is not outside the realm of possibility that plans for his eventual return to Khar Shian included similar accommodations for the poor creatures he experimented on. Their physical fortitude likely helped greatly in that regard as well.

Should Alliance forces encounter any of the corporeal results of Sadow's biological research, extreme caution is advised. While any data collected from the encounter would be extremely valuable, your life and service are worth more."
