Malgus: Shades of the Past
Darth Malgus was present when the Sith reclaimed their ancestral homeworld, Korriban. Alongside his master at the time, Darth Vindican, Malgus attacked a Republic security team during the invasion, killing the Jedi Master who led them. But Vindican was gravely injured, and the Jedi's Padawan escaped with a Republic trooper and a smuggler. To Malgus, this flawed victory may as well have been a defeat. He swiftly--and fatally--punished his master's failure.
Despite Malgus's reputation for ruthless brutality, he had tremendous care and consideration for his lover, a former slave named Eleena Daru. In small ways, this fact quickly became apparent to other Sith. Daru fought fiercely by Malgus's side at the Sacking of Coruscant, and after the battle, Malgus gave orders for her to be taken to a Sith dreadnought to recover. Malgus's rival, Lord Adraas, sent her elsewhere so she would be left behind.
Adraas--who relied on politicking and cunning over physical prowess--frequently undermined Malgus's commands and claimed credit for Malgus's victories. Adraas's support for ending the Great Galactic War with a treaty--instead of conquering the Republic completely--disgusted Malgus, and when he learned what Adraas had done to Daru, it was the last straw.
Malgus found Daru in the medcenter where she had been abandoned, and as they spoke for the final time, Malgus realized that he could not truly be Sith if he allowed anyone to manipulate and exploit the weakness that Daru had become. After Malgus killed his lover, he tracked down Adraas and granted his rival the same fate--though his methods were considerably less merciful.
